Under the joint initiative of Bal Va Mahila Chetna Samiti and Direct Action for Women Now & association for India’s development , a one-day awareness workshop was successfully organized today in Fagania village to address deep-rooted social evils such as child marriage, Nata Pratha, Aata–Sata, Kukdi practice, and dowry system.

The workshop witnessed active participation from village women, young girls, school students, and married women who have been directly affected by child marriage, Aata–Sata, and Nata Pratha.

Addressing the participants, Committee President Ms. Tara Ahluwalia emphasized that these harmful social practices severely impact women’s lives, health, dignity, and self-respect.

During the workshop, participants were divided into different groups and engaged in interactive activities. These discussions clearly highlighted that child marriage deprives girls of education, and early motherhood exposes them to serious physical and mental health issues. Practices like Aata–Sata, Nata Pratha, and Kukdi were identified as factors that make women’s marital lives insecure and obstruct overall social development.

Several organization members also shared their perspectives. Shyam Lal stated, “As long as society continues to accept these evils in the name of tradition, women can never achieve a strong and dignified status.”

Bhawana Joshi stressed the importance of legal awareness, saying, “Women must be informed about their legal rights so they can oppose practices like Nata Pratha and Aata–Sata.”
Parmesh appealed to the youth to take responsibility for social change and initiate reform within their own families.

Speaking at the workshop, Varsha Soni remarked, “Social change begins at home. Only when families give equal rights to daughters will these harmful practices end.”
Maya Soni added, “Dowry, Nata Pratha, and Aata–Sata are attacks on women’s freedom, and we must work together to eliminate them.”

In her presidential address, Ms. Tara Ahluwalia concluded that to eradicate social evils such as child marriage, Nata Pratha, Aata–Sata, Kukdi practice, and dowry system, it is essential to empower girls through education, awareness, and self-reliance.
