A two-day training program on “Gender-Based Violence,” organized jointly by the Bal va Mahila Chetna Samiti and Crea organization, concluded successfully on Monday, May 12. The training aimed to foster an understanding of gender equality and women’s rights, as well as to sensitize social activists and youth regarding the issue of violence.
Resource person Shashi Prabha from Udaipur conducted the training sessions. She explained concepts such as gender, gender inequality, violence against women, domestic violence, harmful social practices, and women’s rights in a simple yet impactful manner. Through a variety of methods—including games, group activities, songs, case studies, enactments, role-plays, discussions, and the sharing of experiences—participants gained a deep understanding of the subject matter.
The training highlighted how various social practices prevalent in society—such as discrimination, patriarchal mindsets, child marriage, denial of education, and restrictions on women’s freedom—act as major barriers to women’s development. Activists were given in-depth guidance on how to work sensitively with women affected by violence, manage crisis situations, and assume leadership roles within the community.
In her address, organization President Tara Ahluwalia stated:
“Gender-based violence is not merely a women’s issue; it is a matter deeply connected to the mindset and structure of society as a whole. Real change is impossible until a sense of equality, respect, and sensitivity takes root in society. Such training programs cultivate leadership, understanding, and a sense of social responsibility among social activists. We must spread dialogue and awareness to every village so that women can lead lives free from fear and filled with dignity.”
The participants described the training as “transformative in terms of mindset” and “highly beneficial for personal and social development.” They remarked that the training not only changed their perspective on society but also provided an opportunity to better understand their own behavior and responsibilities. At the conclusion of the program, all participants pledged to work continuously towards fostering gender equality and creating a violence-free environment in society.
