A workshop on “Women’s Legal Rights” was organized on Thursday at the Panchayat Samiti Suwana auditorium by the Bal Va Mahila Chetna Samiti, under the joint aegis of ‘Direct Action for Women Now’ and the ‘Association for India’s Development’. The objective of the program was to raise awareness and empower women by providing information about their legal rights, laws related to women’s safety, and the availability of free legal aid.
The program was presided over by the organization’s president, Tara Ahluwalia. She emphasized that it is essential for women to be informed about their rights and the law. An aware woman can not only protect herself but also serve as a cornerstone for positive change within her family and society.

The workshop’s keynote speaker, Saransh Chaturvedi from the Legal Services Authority, provided detailed information on the community-led mediation program—conducted “by the community, for the community”—under the ‘Nari Samvad’ (Women’s Dialogue) initiative. He also elaborated on rights granted by the Constitution, the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (2005), the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, women’s helplines, and the free legal aid provided by the District Legal Services Authority. While answering questions from the attendees, he encouraged them to seek legal assistance whenever necessary.

During the event, women were also informed about various government schemes, grievance redressal mechanisms, and institutional arrangements available for women’s safety. Describing the workshop as highly beneficial, the participants expressed the need for organizing similar programs in the future.
Attendees included Shankar Gurjar, Anjali Hada, Anish, and PLA Farukh Pathan from the District Legal Services Authority, as well as organization members Shyam Lal, Vishal, Preeti, Aahuti, Rinku Kanwar, Bhawana, and Parmesh.
