A one-day workshop on “Violence Against Women” was organized at the Faculty of Law, Sangam University, under the joint aegis of the Bal Va Mahila Chetna Samiti and Direct Action for Women. On this occasion, Tara Ahluwalia, President of the Bal Va Mahila Chetna Samiti, Dr. Renuka Pamcha, a retired professor from Kanodia College, Jaipur, and Mamta Jetli, served as the main speakers, sharing their perspectives on various aspects of women’s rights, child marriage, women’s property rights, gender discrimination, and violence. In addition, Program Coordinator Parmesh Mali, Block Coordinators Bhavna Joshi and Shyam Lal, and Office Assistant Vishal also played an active role.

During the sessions, Tara Ahluwalia, Dr. Renuka Pamcha, and Mamta Jetli discussed in detail women’s rights and related sensitive issues. The speakers highlighted the role of family, society, religion, caste, law, the executive, and the judiciary in shaping the status of women in society, emphasizing topics such as the Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), female foeticide, and child marriage. They also stressed the need to raise awareness about women’s rights to ancestral property, the neglect of property rights for homemakers, and the various challenges of gender discrimination and violence.

As part of the workshop, a poster-making and presentation activity was also organized for the students. Participants chose various forms of violence against women as their theme. The presentations addressed issues such as physical violence, domestic violence, violence within the parental home, verbal and mental abuse, sexual violence, discrimination based on caste, community, or religion, sexual harassment at the workplace, and economic violence. The students creatively and effectively presented these challenges, emphasizing the need for societal change.

At the end of the program, all participants sang the song “Dariya Ki Kasam, Mojon Ki Kasam, Yeh Tana-Bana Badlega” , which filled the atmosphere with energy and positivity, further strengthening the resolve for women’s empowerment. The guidance provided by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. (Prof.) Karunesh Saxena, the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. (Prof.) Manas Ranjan Panigrahi, and the Registrar, Dr. Alok Kumar, was instrumental in the success of this event.

The program was hosted by Dr. Vishnu Priya Dadhich. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Om Prakash D. Somkuwar, Dean (In-charge) of the School of Law Studies, Assistant Dean Gaurav Saxena, and faculty members—Dr. Sunakshi Sharma, Shashank Shekhar Singh, Aditya Dadhich, Vartika Mishra, and Vrinda Maheshwari.
